BlackBerry Bold 9700 on Bell Mobility's HSPA Launch List

Bell 9700

BGR got hold of Bell's action-packed HSPA handset launch list, and it sports some BlackBerry Bold 9700 goodness. There are no solid details, but a shipping date of October 30th and launch date of November are listed. It looks like the 9700 will go run you $399.95 on contract, or $599.95 retail. Not wanting to be outdone, the Bold 9000 makes an appearance on the list as well. It seems to me like the Storm2 and 9700 are fighting for the spotlight, and with all the hype about the Storm2, I think most would say the 9700 is the most anticipated.

Camera-less BlackBerry Bold now available via AT&T

As of today AT&T will offer the Research In Motion BlackBerry Bold minus its camera for secure workplaces, following in the footsteps of Verizon and their camera-less BlackBerry Tour reports Crackberry.

AT&T announced the release via their @BizSolutions Twitter account which stated…”Starting Friday — BlackBerry Bold will be available from AT&T in a model without a camera, for secure workplaces.”

This camera-less BlackBerry Bold is fine for those that work in a high security workplace and aren’t allowed a mobile handset which sports a camera, which many companies don’t allow these days.

Video: BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 gets stressed

If you are a BlackBerry fanatic and enjoy long videos then you are in luck as the guys over at Crackberry have now posted a fifteen minute video of their BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 stress tests.

Apparently they are now calling it quits as the BlackBerry Bold simply couldn’t take any more of maxing out the number of contacts BlackBerry messenger 5.0 could handle.

They believe the max number of contacts BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 can handle is within the 1000 to 2000 range and thus made this attempt to find out, and didn’t quite accomplish the task as in excess of 10,000 requests came in, so hit up the video below and go along for the ride.

Bell Line up list includes iPhone, Omnia 2, BlackBerry 9700, and others

Apparently the guys over at the BGR have been given the complete line up list of Canada’s Bell HSPA network, which of course they share with us all complete with prices based on 36 month contracts and followed by full retail price.

The Bell line up goes like this… Apple iPhone 3G 8GB $399.95, $599.95, iPhone 3GS 16GB $499.95, $699.95, iPhone 3GS 32GB $599.95, $799.95 all probably after in store rebates.

BlackBerry… BlackBerry Bold 9000 $399.95, $599.95, BlackBerry 9700 $399.95, $599.95, again probably after in store rebates.

Samsung… Samsung Impact $79.95, $279.95, Samsung Omnia 2 $349.95, $549.95 – Nokia… Nokia 2730 $29.95, $119.95, Nokia 6350 $49.95, $249.95 – and lastly the LG Xenon $89.95, $289.95.

BlackBerry Bold 9700 and Storm 2 set for Aussie launch

Two sweet second-gen BlackBerrys – the Bold 9700 and touchscreen Storm 2 – are on the launchpad for an Australian release next month.

BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 Stress Test - The Aftermath

* If you haven't yet, be sure to first read BBM Stress Test Part 1 and BBM Stress Test Part II *

A week after embarking upon the mission of discovering the max number of contacts BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 can handle, I'm calling it quits on the experiment. It started off fun, grew a little difficult as my BlackBerry Bold began to bog down, and eventually the device just couldn't take it anymore and begged for mercy. The video above serves as evidence of this nutty/stupid/insane and I think somewhat historic event. Warning: It's a long video - I have over 90 minutes of recorded footage, but chopped it down to 15 minutes (cut out the cursing that occurred towards the end and made sure there were no clips where people's pins are shown). If you can make it to the end you're truly a BlackBerry addict. :)

So what what's the verdict? I still don't know the exact number! The total number of BlackBerry Messenger requests to come in was well over 10,000. I managed to get all the way up 2050 approved contacts, but started receiving the Max Number of Contacts Reached message long before that. But I found by closing chats, deleting some of the requests and leaving all joined BBM groups that even though I would get the max number message,  BlackBerry Messenger would still squeeze in a few more. At the end of the day, I'm not sure that RIM set an actual max number of approved contacts, but rather set a loose limit based on database size or total number of "things' going on in messenger at one time.

Bell documents show prices for iPhone, BlackBerry Bold 9700

Adding to details leaked in an earlier report, documents from the Canadian carrier Bell appear to show launch plans for the iPhone, BlackBerry Bold 9700 and Samsung Omnia 2, according to the Boy Genius Report. The latest source claims the iPhone 3G will be available for $150 with a three-year contract after rebates, while off-contract pricing is set at $600....

AT&T Releasing Cameraless Bold

Looks like AT&T wants to play a bit of catch up. As stated on their Twitter page, AT&T says they will be releasing a Blackberry Bold model without a camera for secure workplaces. Verizon and Sprint have already started offering camera-less Blackberry devices, so it seems AT&T wants to try to get a piece of the pie from government agencies, and other businesses.
